Getting to know the Hometown Helpers!

Our names are Jordan and Skyler. We are twin sisters that grew up in the Wilmington, DE area and are the founders of Hometown Helpers DE!

Our families together

Skyler and her husband Tyler decided to start the giving around Easter time 2020. This was during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. They decided to figure out who on their friend's list and beyond needed help, and how they could help them. The first Easter, they put together baskets with what they could and they ultimately helped 15 children. Christmas was hard on everyone so helping during Christmas hadn't become a reality yet.

The next Easter, Jordan decided to join in the helping and at that point, they came up with the name the "Holiday Helpers". The Easter of 2021 was much more fruitful for everyone, with over 100 children and a local children's shelter (The Governor Terry Center) being helped with baskets. This gave Jordan and Skyler an immense feeling of joy being able to provide help for so many people.

Having this feeling of joy, and seeing how many people were so kind to donate presents and things for Easter baskets they reached out to family, friends, and people on local facebook groups to ask for donations of presents for Christmas 2021. That Christmas, they asked people to "adopt a child" and pick up 3 presents per child. They understood that people weren't going to be able to buy and donate big gifts, such as iPads and game consoles, so they asked for the gifts they provided to be supplemental to what the parent's could afford. Christmas 2021 wound up bringing 3 presents each to over 100 children and 14 children at the Governor Terry Center.

After Christmas ended and all of the giving was done, Jordan and Skyler decided this was something they wanted to do all year around and turn it into a fully incorporated 501(c)(3) company.

Back 2 School is our next project, with two fundraisers coming up on July 26th at Sweet Lucy's ice cream shop and another at Bellefonte Brewing Co. Brandywine on August 4th.

We hope to do so many more things for our communities, so be on the lookout for what's next!

Stay Safe & Love Hard

xoxo
